What Everything Search does
Everything 1.4.1.1032 is voidtools' Windows filename indexer. Its default index is based on local fixed NTFS volumes and the NTFS change journal, so claims about near-instant indexing do not automatically apply to FAT/exFAT, removable media, network shares, folder indexes, content search, unavailable volumes, or unusual permission models. Results and index time depend on volume type, file count, storage, permissions, and selected indexes.
The Everything service can maintain NTFS indexes without running the UI elevated; service installation and scope are administrator decisions. The database and settings normally live under the user profile for an installed copy or beside the executable for a portable copy, depending on configuration. Portable is therefore not trace-free, and file names and paths in the index can themselves be sensitive.
Optional HTTP and ETP/FTP servers add network access. IPC is different: the SDK uses local Windows inter-process messages, not a remote network server. None is required simply to search from the local interface. The HTTP server is disabled by default; if enabled, the project warns that indexed files can become searchable and downloadable according to configuration. Keep network servers disabled unless required, and restrict authentication and firewall scope if one is enabled. The Lite build removes HTTP, ETP/FTP and also local IPC, so software integrations that depend on the SDK will not work with Lite.
The table includes x64 and x86 installers plus the publisher’s x64 portable ZIP. No publisher checksum is recorded here. No install, portable trace, service-permission review, index benchmark, network scan, or remote-download test was performed.
