What MPC-HC does
MPC-HC 2.7.4 is the clsid2 project's Windows media player for Windows 7 through 11. The official release provides separate x64 and x86 installers and ZIP archives; the ZIP avoids a setup program but does not by itself prove that every setting or operating-system trace remains beside the executable. Use the installer when managed setup and associations are wanted, and validate the ZIP's settings behavior for a portable deployment.
The project bundles internal LAV Filters and documents subtitles, DVD playback, shaders, shortcuts, and an optional web interface. Actual playback depends on the container, codec profile, subtitles, protected-media requirements, hardware acceleration, driver, and selected options. Optional online-video playback uses a separately obtained yt-dlp helper. The project recommends FFmpeg for best-quality video downloads; it does not make FFmpeg a universal prerequisite for playing local files or opening every online URL. These helpers need their own source and update checks.
The optional web interface exposes a listening service and should remain disabled unless its bind address, access controls, firewall scope, and network need have been reviewed. The player does not need an account for local playback. File associations, update checks, shell integration, and component selections depend on installer choices.
The SHA-256 values below are publisher-repository asset digests. No local install, Authenticode check, association test, playback matrix, settings trace, web-interface scan, or performance benchmark was performed.
