Download summary

Apache OpenOffice is a productivity app for Windows/macOS/Linux, published by Apache Software Foundation. A direct package URL is recorded below. The host may be the publisher, a release repository, a CDN, or another distribution source documented by the publisher. Some packages still fetch optional components during setup. Recorded package files cover Windows; for macOS and Linux, use the publisher's download page linked below. The recorded publisher site is openoffice.org. We do not host or modify installer files.

Publisher documentation

These references support the package and behavior notes. Documentation checks are separate from the recorded URL-check date and do not represent an installation test.

Choose a package

Match Java to the 32-bit Windows application

The recorded en-US Windows installer is x86, including when used on 64-bit Windows. If you need Java-dependent Base or wizard functions, prepare a compatible 32-bit JRE and select it under Tools > Options > OpenOffice > Java.

Apache does not bundle a JRE in current OpenOffice releases. A 64-bit Java installation alone does not satisfy the Windows app’s 32-bit Java requirement; basic Writer, Calc and Impress use does not universally require Java.

Choose the output format before exchanging documents

Keep an OpenDocument original for continued editing, and agree on the delivery format with the recipient. If editable DOCX output is required, consider LibreOffice or ONLYOFFICE and validate a representative file there.

OpenOffice Writer’s DOCX import does not include DOCX export. PDF delivery can preserve a reading copy but is not a substitute when the recipient requires an editable Office document.

Package guidance is based on the linked documentation, checked 11 September 2026. No installation test is claimed.

Verification scope

A direct package URL is recorded above. We have not independently installed every listed build or confirmed that setup remains fully offline.

We do not host software files. Links may resolve to a publisher domain, its release repository, app store, CDN, or a documented distribution host — confirm the final hostname, publisher signature, version, and architecture before deployment. Recorded URLs last checked 11 September 2026; content last updated 11 September 2026.

What Apache OpenOffice does

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.16 is Apache's office-suite release for Windows, macOS, and Linux. This record links the en-US Windows x86 installer from Apache's official mirror network; it is not a 64-bit Windows build. The publisher also provides macOS x86-64 and Linux x86/x86-64 DEB and RPM packages plus multiple languages, all selected through the official download page rather than represented by the Windows file.

Writer, Calc, Impress, Draw, Base, and Math use OpenDocument formats natively. OpenOffice can exchange older Microsoft Office formats. Writer can open DOCX but cannot save in DOCX format; importing a file does not establish that it can be returned in the same format. Complex layouts, formulas, macros, fonts, objects and animations can also change. Do not treat “opens common Office formats” as a lossless-compatibility claim; test actual business documents and retain originals.

Base database connections, Java-dependent functions, macros, and extensions introduce separate runtime, security, and compatibility requirements. Core local editing does not require an account, while downloads, extension retrieval, remote data sources, and updates can require network access.

Apache publishes SHA-256/SHA-512 files and OpenPGP signatures for release packages and documents its KEYS verification process. This review did not download the Windows installer, verify a signature locally, test Java or database functions, or compare document fidelity.

Installation notes

Grouped by the package types recorded on this page — not a claim that every listed build was independently tested on every supported platform.

Windows Windows installer (EXE)

  1. 1

Download the recorded file (Apache_OpenOffice_4.1.16_Win_x86_install_en-US.exe). If it has a digital signature, inspect the signer and validation result in Properties → Digital Signatures. If no signature is present, follow the publisher's documented verification method; a missing signature does not authenticate the file.

  2. 2

Check any Windows warning before proceeding. A SmartScreen reputation warning is not signature verification; stop if the publisher is unexpected or the file is reported as malicious.

  3. 3

Follow the publisher's setup prompts to finish; options vary by release, so review each screen rather than clicking through.

No direct package URL is recorded on this page for macOS and Linux — for those platforms, choose the build on the publisher's download page linked in the table above.
