Download summary

Telegram Desktop is a communication app for Windows/macOS/Linux, published by Telegram. A direct package URL is recorded below. The host may be the publisher, a release repository, a CDN, or another distribution source documented by the publisher. Some packages still fetch optional components during setup. The recorded publisher site is desktop.telegram.org. We do not host or modify installer files.

Publisher documentation

These references support the package and behavior notes. Documentation checks are separate from the recorded URL-check date and do not represent an installation test.

Choose a package

Choose the desktop client and package deliberately

The portable Windows ZIP avoids setup, while the EXE uses an installer. Both are Telegram Desktop and use the same cloud-chat service. On macOS, Telegram's separate native app and its cross-platform desktop client differ in features.

Do not expect this desktop package to import device-specific Secret Chats. A portable application folder can still contain signed-in state and downloaded data; protect it before moving it to another machine.

Export records for offline reading

If the task is to read selected chat history disconnected, use Telegram Desktop's export feature while the account is available online. The publisher documents HTML and JSON output, including selected media.

An export is a separate local copy, not offline messaging or proof of a restorable application backup. Check which chats and files were included, open the resulting records, and protect the exported content. This workflow was not executed on an account here.

Package guidance is based on the linked documentation. No installation test is claimed.

Verification scope

A direct package URL is recorded above. We have not independently installed every listed build or confirmed that setup remains fully offline.

We do not host software files. Links may resolve to a publisher domain, its release repository, app store, CDN, or a documented distribution host — confirm the final hostname, publisher signature, version, and architecture before deployment. Recorded URLs last checked 11 September 2026; content last updated 11 September 2026.

What Telegram Desktop does

Telegram Desktop is the open-source desktop client for Telegram's connected messaging service on Windows, macOS, and Linux. It signs in to a Telegram account and uses Telegram's cloud for standard chats, media, groups, channels, bots, and cross-device history. Installing a desktop package does not provide offline messaging; account authorization, synchronization, calls, file transfer, updates, and normal use require connectivity.

Standard Telegram cloud chats are not end-to-end encrypted. Telegram's Secret Chats are device-specific, are not cloud-synchronized, and are not available in Telegram Desktop, so this page does not attribute Secret Chat end-to-end encryption or self-destruct controls to the desktop client. Bots are third-party programs that can receive data sent to them and must be reviewed separately. File-size limits, call features, Premium benefits, and platform behavior can change.

This record retains older Telegram Desktop 7.1.3 release assets published in the official tdesktop GitHub repository: Windows x64 installer and portable ZIP, macOS DMG, and Linux x86_64 tar.xz. The Linux item is an upstream binary archive rather than a distribution-native package, and portable means no installer—not no files, updates, account state, or network use. The SHA-256 values are reference digests in the official GitHub release-asset metadata, rechecked on 2026-09-11. The release is not marked immutable. This audit did not install the packages, inspect code signatures, or authenticate to Telegram.

  • Desktop export can produce selected chat records and media for offline reading
  • Voice and video calls require Telegram's service and current client support
  • Secret Chats are device-specific and unavailable in Telegram Desktop

Installation notes

Grouped by the package types recorded on this page — not a claim that every listed build was independently tested on every supported platform.

Windows Windows archive (ZIP/7Z)

  1. 1

Extract the recorded file (tportable-x64.7.1.3.zip) into a separate folder and check the publisher's instructions for the executable or setup program inside. ZIP/7Z describes compression, not installation behavior.

  2. 2

A no-installer build may still store settings, credentials, caches, or Registry entries outside that folder. Check Telegram Desktop's configuration and removal instructions before moving or deleting it.

Windows Windows installer (EXE)

  1. 1

Download the recorded file (tsetup-x64.7.1.3.exe). If it has a digital signature, inspect the signer and validation result in Properties → Digital Signatures. If no signature is present, follow the publisher's documented verification method; a missing signature does not authenticate the file.

  2. 2

Check any Windows warning before proceeding. A SmartScreen reputation warning is not signature verification; stop if the publisher is unexpected or the file is reported as malicious.

  3. 3

Follow the publisher's setup prompts to finish; options vary by release, so review each screen rather than clicking through.

macOS macOS disk image (DMG)

  1. 1

Open the disk image and follow the publisher's instructions for its contents. It may contain an app to copy to Applications or a separate installer.

  2. 2

Check first-launch security prompts. For damaged, revoked, or unverified software, stop and check the publisher's current package and Apple's guidance before proceeding.

Linux Linux binary archive

  1. 1

Extract the recorded file (tsetup.7.1.3.tar.xz) to a separate directory. This record identifies an application binary bundle; check the required system libraries and architecture before launch.

  2. 2

Use the publisher's launcher and update instructions. Extracting a tarball alone does not register a distribution package; the application may still have its own updater or desktop integration.
