SMPlayer Overview
SMPlayer is a free, open-source media player for Windows, macOS, and Linux, created by Ricardo Villalba. It provides a full graphical interface on top of the powerful mpv and MPlayer engines, combining easy point-and-click use with the playback strength of those back ends. One of its signature features is that it remembers settings on a per-file basis: stop a movie and reopen it later and SMPlayer resumes from the same position, with the same audio track, subtitles, and adjustments you chose before. It ships with its own codecs so there is nothing extra to install, and it can search for and download subtitles, play YouTube videos, organize playlists, apply audio and video filters, and change its look through skins and themes. It supports many languages and works well for both casual viewing and detailed playback control. The full offline installer holds the complete application, so it sets up on a machine with no internet connection. This page links to the official SMPlayer download.
