Scribus is a free, open-source desktop publishing (DTP) application for Windows, macOS, and Linux, used to create professional page layouts such as brochures, magazines, newsletters, posters, and books. Unlike a word processor, it gives precise control over layout with frames for text and images, master pages, layers, and typographic controls, and it emphasizes print-ready output: it supports CMYK color, spot colors, ICC color management, and export to press-quality, PDF/X-compliant PDFs. It can be a free alternative to commercial page-layout software for producing print materials. Its full installer holds the complete application, so it sets up on a machine with no internet connection. It also supports importing vector and bitmap graphics, creating interactive PDF forms, and scripting through Python for automated layout tasks.
