Spek Overview
Spek is a free, open-source acoustic spectrum analyzer for Windows, macOS, and Linux that shows the frequency content of audio files as a spectrogram. With a single drag-and-drop, it renders a clear picture of how an audio file's frequencies are distributed over time, which is widely used to inspect audio quality — for example, to spot whether an MP3 was transcoded from a lossy source (a 'fake' high-bitrate file) by seeing where its frequency content cuts off. It is extremely simple, fast, and focused on doing this one job well. It supports many audio formats. The offline installer bundles everything Spek needs, so installation completes without a connection. It shows the duration, sample rate, and bitrate alongside the spectrogram, and images can be saved to share an analysis with others. This page points to the genuine Spek source from Andreas Kuckartz, not a third-party host.
