Zotero Overview
Zotero is a free, open-source reference-management tool for Windows, macOS, and Linux, developed by the Corporation for Digital Scholarship. It helps researchers, students, and academics collect, organize, cite, and share their research sources. Zotero can automatically sense and save references from web pages, library catalogs, and databases with a single click through its browser connector, capturing the bibliographic details and often an attached PDF. You organize your library into collections and tags, attach notes and files, search across everything, and let it detect duplicates and keep related items together. Its standout feature is citation: Zotero plugs into word processors such as Microsoft Word, LibreOffice, and Google Docs to insert in-text citations and automatically build bibliographies in thousands of citation styles, including APA, MLA, Chicago, and many journal-specific formats, switching between them instantly. It can sync your library across devices and supports shared group libraries for collaborating with others. Because it is free and open source, it is a popular alternative to commercial reference managers. This page links to the official Zotero download.
