VMware Workstation Overview
VMware Workstation Pro is a desktop virtualization application for Windows and Linux from VMware (now part of Broadcom). It lets you run multiple operating systems as virtual machines on a single physical computer, so you can run Windows, Linux, and many other systems side by side without rebooting. Developers, IT professionals, and testers use it to build isolated environments, try risky changes safely with snapshots, reproduce customer setups, and run whole networks of virtual machines on one host. It supports a broad range of guest operating systems, hardware features such as multiple virtual processors and large amounts of memory, USB device passthrough, and shared folders between host and guest. Cloning, snapshots, and virtual networking tools make it well suited to complex test labs. VMware has made Workstation Pro free for personal use, with commercial licensing available for business use.
