VeraCrypt Overview
VeraCrypt is a free, open-source disk-encryption tool for Windows, macOS, and Linux, and the actively maintained successor to TrueCrypt. It can create an encrypted container that mounts as a virtual disk, encrypt an entire partition or USB drive, and even encrypt the system drive with pre-boot authentication so the whole operating system is protected. It uses strong encryption algorithms and supports advanced features like hidden volumes for plausible deniability and keyfiles for extra protection. Encryption and decryption happen on the fly, transparently, as you use the files. Saved as a full installer, VeraCrypt can be set up on a system with no network access.
