Psiphon Overview
Psiphon is a free, open-source censorship-circumvention tool for Windows that helps users in restrictive networks reach blocked websites and services. Unlike a traditional privacy VPN, its primary goal is access: it automatically combines VPN, SSH, and HTTP proxy technologies and switches between them to get around blocking, choosing whatever works in a given network. It is widely used in regions where the open internet is restricted. Because its aim is circumvention rather than strong anonymity, it is best understood as an access tool rather than a no-logs privacy VPN. It is free to use; the app installs the client, and connecting requires internet access. It is available as a desktop app and on mobile, and because the code is open source, researchers can verify exactly how it works.
