LMMS Overview
LMMS (Linux MultiMedia Studio) is a free, open-source digital audio workstation for Windows, macOS, and Linux aimed at making music — particularly electronic and beat-driven tracks — without expensive software. It provides a song editor, a beat and bassline editor, a piano roll for composing melodies, and an FX mixer, plus a collection of built-in synthesizers and instruments and support for VST plugins and SoundFonts. It is often described as a free alternative to commercial DAWs like FL Studio for producing music from scratch. Its no-cost, cross-platform nature makes it popular with hobbyist and beginner producers. The download is the complete LMMS setup, so it installs offline without pulling extra files. A built-in library of samples and presets helps beginners start quickly, and projects can be exported to WAV or OGG for sharing. The official LMMS download is linked on this page, straight from LMMS Developers.
