I2P Anonymous Network Overview
I2P (the Invisible Internet Project) is a free, open-source anonymous network layer for Windows, macOS, and Linux that routes traffic through a distributed, encrypted overlay so that communications are difficult to trace. Unlike a VPN, it is a peer-to-peer network in which traffic is bundled and relayed through multiple other participants (garlic routing), and it is designed primarily for accessing services hosted inside the network (called eepsites and other I2P services) as well as anonymous messaging and file sharing. It appeals to privacy researchers and users who need strong anonymity for in-network services. Saved as a full installer, I2P Anonymous Network can be set up on a system with no network access. Applications must be configured to route through I2P, and the project provides built-in tools for anonymous email, file transfer, and hosting services.
