Fre:ac Overview
fre:ac (free audio converter) is a free, open-source audio converter and CD ripper for Windows, macOS, and Linux that converts between many audio formats and extracts audio from CDs. It supports popular formats including MP3, AAC/M4A, FLAC, Opus, Ogg Vorbis, and WAV, handles batch conversion of large numbers of files efficiently, and preserves and edits metadata tags during conversion. As a CD ripper it can look up disc information online to tag tracks automatically. Its no-cost, cross-platform nature and solid format support make it a practical tool for building and converting a digital music collection. The full Fre:ac installer is self-contained and finishes installation even on an offline machine. It supports gapless conversion for albums and can encode to multiple formats in a single pass, which saves time for large libraries. This page links straight to Fre:ac's official Fre:ac source.
