Cryptomator Overview

Cryptomator is a free, open-source tool for client-side encryption of files you keep in cloud storage, available for Windows, macOS, and Linux. It creates an encrypted vault that appears as a normal virtual drive on your computer; files you place there are encrypted on your device before they ever reach services like Dropbox, Google Drive, or OneDrive, so the cloud provider only ever sees encrypted data. Each file is individually encrypted, and even file names are obscured. Because it works transparently as a virtual drive, you use your files normally while they stay protected. Its full installer holds the complete application, so it sets up on a machine with no internet connection. An optional mobile app lets you open the same vaults on a phone, and because the vault format is open, your data is never locked to a single vendor. ⚠️

Cryptomator does not open after installation.

Check if the installation was successful by looking for Cryptomator in your applications folder. If it’s not there, try reinstalling the software. If it is there but won't open, check your system's security settings to ensure Cryptomator is allowed to run.

Cryptomator Offline Installer FAQ

How does Cryptomator protect my cloud files?
Cryptomator encrypts your files on your own device before they sync to the cloud, so providers like Dropbox or Google Drive only ever store encrypted data, including obscured file names. You unlock the vault locally with a password. This page links to the official source.
Do I need a specific cloud service for Cryptomator?
No. Cryptomator works with virtually any cloud storage that syncs a folder on your computer — Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, and others — because it simply encrypts the files inside a vault folder that the cloud service then syncs.
