VirtualDub Overview
VirtualDub is a free, open-source video capture and processing utility for Windows, a long-standing classic for fast, focused video tasks. It specializes in capturing video from sources and performing linear processing — trimming, applying filters (resize, deinterlace, sharpen, and many community filters), and converting — with an emphasis on AVI files. It can batch-process many files and is highly efficient for straightforward operations. While it predates modern editors and focuses on AVI workflows, its speed and filter ecosystem keep it useful for specific tasks like cleaning up captured footage. As a single complete installer, VirtualDub finishes setup on a machine that has no connection.
